Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Ƶ is committed to achieving equality in everything that we do, upholding our mission statement and seeking to follow the example and teaching of Christ. This means treating all individuals fairly with dignity and respect. The Ƶ Trust is committed to equality in both employment and education provision, seeking to review and improve our practice in all that we do.

The Trust opposes all forms of discrimination and it is our policy and ethos to promote equality to all, irrespective of:

Equality & Attainment

We are committed to improving the attainment of vulnerable groups of students. This includes students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and those entitled to Free School Meals, so that the gap between their attainment and that of other students is narrowed. We strive for the best possible attainment by all students.

We aim to raise aspirations among children and young people, their parents and communities, and raise awareness of career and higher education opportunities, to challenge stereotypes.

Equality & Curriculum

We will ensure that our curriculum (including our programme of enrichment and extra-curricular activities) is broad and balanced. Our curriculum provides opportunities for all students and promotes understanding between different groups of people, cultures and societies.

Our curriculum will include an element of PSHE education that tackles stereotypes and challenges students’ perceptions.

We will ensure that Teach SouthEast and other training providers include appropriate training for trainee teachers in diversity and inclusion.

Equality & Behaviour

We will maintain a rigorous anti-bullying stance so that all students and staff are protected from harassment and discrimination.

We will ensure the promotion of our Catholic values and British values through our curriculum. This will support and develop our students into responsible citizens of the future.

Our behaviour policies will outline how we will deal with students who use discriminatory, homophobic or otherwise offensive language.

Equality & Leadership

At Ƶ, we ensure that our recruitment process is fair and equal to all who seek a position at either the Trust or one of our schools. We make sure we recruit employees based on their relevant skills, qualifications, and knowledge within the post that they are applying for, and ensure our recruitment practices abide by our policies and the .

Consultation with Stakeholders

We regularly engage with and consult our stakeholders (including parents, students, governors, staff and local communities). We aim to develop a shared awareness of current discrimination topics, and review the impact of our policies and equality objectives.

  • Student surveys, ‘Student Voice’ forums and school council
  • Student school leader programmes
  • Staff surveys
  • Staff wellbeing and consultation forum
  • Parents’ forums and open door
  • Parent and Local Governing Committee
  • Open events/Parents’ Evenings
  • School magazines and other communication channels
